The Summer is flying by and before you know it Westark Area Council Scouters will be gathering for Wood Badge S8-16-11-1 in September and October. You can start off your Scouting year with a "mountain top" experience and be prepared for the leadership challenges you are sure to face with your Pack, Troop, Venture Crew or Varsity Team.
There are presently only ELEVEN SLOTS LEFT! If you want to be assured of a spot you need to sign up now. It's easy to do and you can do it on-line.

Be a part of the 100th Year of Scout Training...Come to Wood Badge!!!
We just got through the 100th year of Scouting in America but did you know that this is the 100th year of adult leader training? That's right, Baden Powell conducted the first series of lectures in 1911 which later became the course now known as Wood Badge in 1919! This course presented by Westark Area Council is open to ALL Scout leaders; Cub Scouters, Boy Scouters, Venture Leaders and Varsity Team Leaders.

What is Wood Badge?:
- Wood Badge is the advanced leadership and team-building training for adult leaders.
- It teaches skills that are useful in Scouting and elsewhere
- The program is for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venture leaders as well as council and district leaders.
- Wood Badge for the 21st Century focuses on leadership, not outdoor skills.
The 21st Century Wood Badge course brings together leaders from all areas of Scouting - Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturing, and all levels of BSA's professional staff. Reflecting the best of nearly a century of Scouting experience, 21st Century Wood Badge also draws upon the most current leadership models being used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country. You will learn, make lifelong friends and have FUN!!

Who may attend:
Wood Badge training is for EVERY Scout leader....Cub Scout, Boy Scout Venturing and Varsity.

Qualifications to attend are:
1. Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
2. Have completed the basic training courses for your Scouting position.
3. Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. All participants
are required to complete the Annual Health and Medical Record form (available at www.scouting.org).
What is the cost?:
$190 in one payment or may be made in three installments (See application for details--all fees must be paid in full by Aug 12, 2011). Either full payment or the first installment will hold your position until Aug 12. Deposit is non-refundable after Aug 12.
How do I sign up?:
Participation in the course is first come/first served and is expected to fill up quickly! Deposit or full amount must be sent to the Scout office to hold your place. To apply On-Line please fill out the form found here: Participant Application form
